.:As I read the notice on Nouk's site the other day about a group actively attacking the free-site movement, I was compelled to think more on this issue than I have in the past. The pay/free debate remains heated in the Sims 2 community and personally I do not want to be directly involved in the drama. Not because I am a coward, rather because I have found the conduct on both sides to be predominantly immature and spiteful.
.:That said, I do not believe that Sims custom content should be used for commercial purposes. The EA EULA is clear enough on the issue and many sites blatantly ignore it. Why? They don’t think that EA will take legal action. Perhaps they are correct in their assumption. Perhaps not. Regardless, it doesn’t dismiss the fact that they are destroying the spirit of the Sims 2 community in the process.
.:The focus has primarily shifted from the game itself to the bottom line. What once was fun - a game about life, is beginning to align with the reality that ‘money is everything.’ Whatever side you may be on, be you a pirate, a paysite owner, or an oblivious simmer, I urge you to remember that this is just a game. Petty behavior makes one look childish, and I think it’s about time some respect was brought back into the community. Something to think on.
.:While I do not necessarily support all the conduct of these forums, I have included some useful links in case you would like to research the issue further yourself. Copy & paste them into your browser’s address bar.
